RSS syndication and how I have used it
A short time ago, the term 'RSS syndication' meant very little to me, but now that I have come to understand what it is and how to use it, I've found it to be very useful. I used to let topics and information I was interested in just slip by before I found out about RSS syndication. More on that later...
RSS syndication (short for 'Really Simple Syndication') is a way for web sites to make their information available to interested parties, and a way for interested parties to choose exactly what types of information about which they want to remain informed about. It also allows them to choose their sources for those types of information, and have many different types of information from many different sources consolidated in one place. RSS syndication saves you from fishing through information in which you are not interested, so you can skip to what interests you. Yay for RSS syndication!
My most recent experience with RSS syndication was through one of my favorite news and entertainment web sites. I wanted to remain updated about the Olympics, specifically the snowboarding updates. Shortly after Shaun White hit his Double McTwist 1260 on the snowboard halfpipe, I checked my RSS reader which makes use of RSS syndication, and it brought me right to a site where I could watch his victory lap on video. Seeing such a huge move as that was INSANE!!
I have also used RSS syndication to stay updated with my favorite band. I just open up my RSS reader, and I can see their tour blog updates, new music videos, tour dates in my area, and anything else I'd want to know about them! It really is a great way to stay in the loop about the things I care about the most. I just have to say it again: Yay for Rss syndication!
If you want a simple, straight forward way to hand pick your world, sport, and entertainment news, you really should consider RSS syndication.
